What is POA?
Power of Attorney is a legal document that authorizes someone (usually a family member or lawyer in India) to act on your behalf for property transactions.
Types of POA
General POA (broad powers) vs Specific POA (limited to particular transaction). For property matters, Specific POA is recommended.
Registration Requirements
POA must be executed on stamp paper, notarized in the country of residence, apostilled (for Hague Convention countries) or attested by Indian Embassy/Consulate.
Validity & Revocation
POA remains valid until revoked or death of principal. Can be revoked anytime by registered notice.
Important Warnings
- Always use Specific POA for property transactions
- Ensure apostille/attestation as per country requirements
- Keep original POA safe - copies may not be accepted
- POA holder cannot benefit themselves from the transaction
